Jack Tiefenbrun
Company Founder

Jack Tiefenbrun

Castle Precision was originally founded as Textile Engineering in 1951 by Jack Tiefenbrun.

Jack Tiefenbrun born in Krakow Poland, in 1921, moved to a farm outside Vienna, Austria, when he was 5. Jack arrived in the UK in 1938 at the age of just 17. His first job involved maintaining large knitting looms, where at the time he also completed a part time engineering qualification at college. By age 30, Jack had already ascertained a wealth of engineering experience and knowledge and decided to start his own company.

Castle was established in 1951 as the Textile Engineering Company. The company, founded by Jack Tiefenbrun, serviced a diverse range of customers with the main being the massive Singer Sewing Machine Company on the Clyde.

In 1963, Jack moved the company from the former snooker hall in the Gorbals to a purpose built factory in the south side of Glasgow. The company was renamed Castle Precision Engineering Ltd and signalled the move into a more general sub contract machining market.

In 1986 the company’s founder Jack Tiefenbrun passed away. A born engineer and a gentleman in every sense. He was fondly known, and will be remembered as Mr Jack.

Leah Tiefenbrun took over the running of the company between 1986 and 1993.

Marcus Tiefenbrun
Managing Director

Marcus Tiefenbrun

Marcus Tiefenbrun is the current managing director and owner of Castle Precision Engineering, a leading UK sub-contractor for precision machined components for the Aerospace, Defence, Energy & Electronics Sectors.

Prior to taking over Castle Precision, Marcus was the Financial Director at Castle's sister company Linn Hi-Fi. Linn began as an offshoot of Castle in 1973 and is now one of the leading suppliers of high end audio equipment. As Financial Director, Marcus was responsible for Purchasing, Stores, Production and IT development.

Between 1973 and 1977 Marcus Tiefenbrun completed an Engineering with Marketing Degree at Paisley University. In 1978 Marcus joined Linn. In 1990 Marcus took on a training role teaching Management Skills, Purchasing and Sales & Appraisal Techniques all around the UK as well as the USA.

Marcus was appointed as the Managing Director of Castle in 1993. At the time Castle was a very technically strong, traditional west of Scotland engineering company; but without clear leadership to drive the company forward. Marcus focused on removing the non-performing assets, and spent a large portion of the first two years training in an effort to modernise the culture.

The company was in need of an IT system. Having investigated the market extensively Marcus came to the conclusion that there was nothing worthwhile out there and that he would build his own.

The MD, who had been in charge of IT in Linn, started serious work on the system in 1999. The general consensus was that it couldn’t be done. Today Castle has one of the foremost Production Control IT systems in the world.

In 2010 Marcus was nominated for Entrepreneur of The Year at the annual Scottish Business Awards.

Yan is involved in several areas across the business including: strategy development, marketing and branding, training development and business and process improvement. Yan has also been responsible for leading a number of special projects including leading a successful campaign to the Manufacturer of the Year Award in 2010.

In 2010 Yan Tiefenbrun became a Company Director.
